Winter 2014 - Who's Had Enough?
So what's the view from your window?Seems like a long never ending snow stormy winter. Spanning from the North to the South, the snow has caused major shut downs. In some cases there have been chaotic and fatal situations. It's the nature of the season. As always, be careful. Soft snow flakes falling from the sky, leaving a beautiful white covering across the land is indeed a pretty sight. However, that pretty fluffy white stuff mixed with cold temperatures can be outright hazardous. Accidents due to poor visibility, treacherous roads, sidewalks that are not clear may deliver severe slipping/falling, tree branches breaking off with the snow and windy conditions, power lines down, losing electricity are just a part of the danger of the white fluff. If you are told to stay indoors, STAY INDOORS!!!
Who's loving this weather? Kids of course, they are always up for a fun frolic in the flakes and college students are ecstatic - no classes.

What's the great news? Spring is on the way...... Here's the countdown.

Winter Snow Storms
This winter season is proving to be quite the season. Many states are overwhelmed by the snow storms that just wont seem to let up. Much to the dismay of those who migrated to the south to escape the winters, the winter has made it a point to follow them. It has even caused people to question the Global Warming theory.
More importantly, we also know that this weather may cause an affect on various health related conditions and in worse case fatalities. Some may suffer from the winter blues or the hazards of snow storms . Today I woke up to the early morning reports of the snow storm coverage and suddenly I realized that there was no need for me to complain. After all, this is winter and this is what happens during the winter season. Now, if I can just accept it and begin to focus on the things I need to do to arm myself appropriately - gloves, scarf, hat, coat, boots and layer accordingly, I would be fine.
With that attitude, I began to count down the days to spring. January is almost gone, we have two more months to go. Before you know it Spring will be here and then we'll be complaining of the winter weight or the rain. How about using this time to make healthy choices, you'll be so proud of yourself ;-)

Spring into Health & Wellness
Springtime is upon us and many of us are still working on our new year's goal to maintain a healthy and well balanced life. Somewhere after December 25th and January 1st, 2009 we vowed to get in shape, lose those excess pounds, be fit for the summer time - determined to get back into those clothes that have remained useless for quite a while. For those of you who haven't quite reach the goals, there is still time to work towards achieving them.
As the weather becomes consistently better, plan to make some small changes:
1. Get up early and go for a brisk walk for 30 minutes, as you become more comfortable with the walk mix it up with a walk and run/jog at a pace that works for you.
2. If the morning does not work for you, try the evening after you get home. You may feel more comfortable going to the park or the streets in your neighborhood may serve you just fine.
3. You can also try to find a willing partner to join you.
4. If you are still not ready to venture outdoors, turn on the television and find a workout program.
5. You can also find a great supportive group by signing up for various run/walk events in your town/city. There are always a great number of causes to show your support by participating.
Tips
Add more water
100% fruit juices
Fruits
Vegetables
Yogurt
Fiber
Whole Wheat
Vitamins
Be consistent, it will take some time to see the results and when you do, you will be so glad that you did.
